WHAT LEVEL OF RIDING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED FOR YOUR TOURS?

Our tours cater to a range of experience levels. We offer beginner-friendly tours on easier terrain, intermediate tours with more challenging routes, and advanced tours for seasoned riders seeking adventure. We’ll assess your skill level before recommending a suitable tour.

The tour price typically includes motorbike rental (unless you bring your own), fuel, accommodation, meals as specified in the itinerary, a knowledgeable guide, support vehicle (if applicable), entrance fees to attractions, and basic riding gear (helmet, gloves). It’s important to review the specific tour details for a complete list of inclusions.

We keep the itinerary flexible on purpose. We can give you a general overview but Ha Giang is remote and conditions can change quickly, so we adapt routes and stops to suit the weather, the group, and the road. That said, we’ve been running this loop for nearly a decade and know it better than anyone. We choose clean, comfortable, character-filled homestays and guesthouses with local connections and home-cooked meals. Don’t expect a glam hotel. These are roadside accommodations that we’ve vetted and have built relationships so we don’t disclose the names before the ride.

Trust us: you’ll get a well-crafted, experience-rich adventure without the tourist traps. This isn’t about checking boxes; it’s about letting the road (and our expert guides) lead the way.

Great question. These terms can get confusing, especially in rural Vietnam where the lines often blur. Here’s a quick glossary of what you’ll hear about in Ha Giang:

  • Homestay: Usually a family-run home where you stay in a private room or shared space. It’s more about cultural connection. You can expect home-cooked meals and basic amenities. You’re a guest in someone’s actual home (though some are purpose-built now to host travelers).
  • Guesthouse: A small, often family-run lodging with private rooms and a bit more privacy than a homestay. Think of it as a mini hotel: simple, functional, and affordable.
  • Hostel: Designed for backpackers on a budget. Often basic, crowded, and not always well-maintained in rural areas. Usually lack the character, comfort, and local connection Flipside aims to provide. We won’t put you up at a hostel.
  • Hotel: Typically offers more standardised service: private rooms, daily cleaning, sometimes a restaurant. In Ha Giang, hotels tend to be basic, not luxury.
  • Villa: Usually a larger, standalone property with more space, communal areas, and a laid-back vibe. Our Flipside Villa, for example, has dorms and private rooms, a pool, jacuzzi, garden, and is more of a social hub than you’ll find with a hotel.

Bottom line: We mix the best of all during your trip! Clean, character-filled, locally owned places that add to the adventure.

We’ll provide a detailed packing list upon booking, but essentials include:

  • Riding gear appropriate for the weather conditions (jacket, pants, boots)
  • Comfortable clothing for off-bike activities
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, and hat
  • Personal toiletries
  • Any necessary medications
  • Camera to capture the memories
  • A sense of adventure!

The daily distances vary depending on the tour’s difficulty level and terrain. Generally, beginner-friendly tours cover shorter distances, around 100-150 km per day, while intermediate and advanced tours might range from 150-250 km or more. We design our itineraries to balance riding time with breaks for sightseeing, meals, and rest, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all riders.

Our tours are well-planned with contingencies in place for breakdowns. We have a support vehicle (or arrangements with local mechanics) that can assist with repairs or provide a replacement bike if necessary. Your safety and enjoyment are our top priorities, so we’ll ensure you get back on the road as quickly as possible.

Storage on site and a safe for valuable items.

We focus on quality, character, and connection. We’re not the cheapest but we are the most intentional. We keep our groups small, prioritize safety, make sure our experiences are real, and our vibe is laid-back but respectful. You won’t find rowdy party crowds or selfie-stick stampedes here. You’ll just find curious, open-minded travelers of all ages who are here for the ride, the culture, and the story.

We’ve built our trips for people who want something more than just a checklist. They want adventure with meaning. If that sounds like you, we think we’ll get along just fine.
